Pioneering spirit are the best words to describe the Montes philosophy and way of life. Innovation also reflects their constant search for better ways when approaching any of its activities in the wine world.
Passion and love of wine led Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray, in 1987 to accept the challenge of improving Chile’s wines way beyond their then current level, a task accomplished with the creation of Chile’s first really premium wine –Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon– and, later, Chile’s first ultra premium wine, Montes Alpha M, also a Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by two other icons, Montes Folly and Purple Angel. Chile was never the same after this and its image in the wine world was much improved, as a consequence.
Argentina was geographically too close to resist its allure and the Montes story was repeated in Mendoza, starting in 2002. Kaiken and Kaiken Ultra were born and quickly established themselves as superior quality wines, limited to two versions of Malbec and two of Cabernet Sauvignon.
The common denominator was pioneering, innovation, passion and love of wine, especially of Cabernet Sauvignon, the King of grapes.
